The green transition requires transmission cables, and with the factory in Karlskrona, NKT is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of high-voltage cables. Now NKT announces further investments in the business to meet the increasing demand in the market. The investments include, among other things, a new, third cable tower, and NKT expects that the investments will have created more than 500 new jobs when the expansions are put into operation as planned from 2027.
– The global transition to renewable energy is constantly increasing the demand for high-voltage cables, and with the investments we are taking an important step to ensure continued growth in NKT. With the investments, we maintain our leading position in the high-voltage market and create additional capacity for more projects with both new and existing customers. At the same time, I am happy that we continue to invest in Sweden, increase the export of our cable technology and create even more local jobs in both Karlskrona and Sweden, says Claes Westerlind, site manager for the factory in Karlskrona.
NKT is one of the largest private employers in Blekinge and continues its commitment to the local community with these investments. Since 2020, the company has created more than 300 jobs and with another 500, NKT will have created more than 800 local jobs since 2020.
– We have had a good and productive collaboration with local and national actors such as Business Sweden, Karlskrona Municipality, Blekinge County, Blekinge Institute of Technology and Region Blekinge who have worked purposefully to create the necessary framework for our future expansion in Karlskrona. We look forward to continuing the collaboration in the coming years and creating growth in the local area, says Claes Westerlind.
The new cable tower is estimated to be around 200 meters high and thus Sweden’s second tallest tower when it is completed in 2027.
